Hello! Welcome to Whitehorse Dentist

So, why in the world would I create a website about a dentist in Whitehorse? Well, have you ever been traumatized by a dentist? Are you absolutely petrified to step foot into a dental clinic? Perhaps, you just dislike everything about the dentist office. I created this site to share my story as well as provide you with a happy ending alternative to the fear and pain often associated with proper oral hygiene.

My story starts at a very young age when I somehow managed to get an abscess tooth. Needless to say, I was forced to go to the family dentist to have this tooth repaired. Unfortunately, this is not a fond memory and the pain and mental anguish that I went through that day has probably been exaggerated in my mind over the years. Nonetheless this is where the fear and dislike of dental clinics began.

Now if we fast-forward about 20 years, I have had a few run-ins with the dentist but for the most part tried to stay out of that big, scary chair. After I moved up to Whitehorse, I figured it was time to to put the fear aside and go get a cleaning and a checkup. A friend of mine recommended that I check out Riverstone Dental Clinic. Since she is a good friend, I figured I could trust her and I called to make my appointment. I was treated to a bubbly and friendly receptionist who was more than happy to make me an appointment. So far, so good but my fear of having someone probe and scrape my teeth had not been relieved. To tell you the truth, that fear grew a little bit when I saw that my chosen dental office looked to be in an old house. I didn’t realize that dentists worked out of houses? Those concerns quickly evaporated when I opened the door and saw how professional and amazing it looked inside. I especially enjoyed seeing several flat screen TVs scattered around the clinic. After chatting with the amazingly friendly receptionist and of course filling out some obligatory paperwork, it was time for me face the scrapers, probes, suction devices and of course that stream of cold water that always seems to hurt your teeth somehow.

Yes, as I sat in the dentist chair, flashbacks of my horrible childhood experience ran across my mind. Luckily the dental hygienist started explaining some of the techniques and everything she was looking at. I was surprised how professional and friendly she was. This dentistry lesson eased my mind a little. Then all of a sudden, I realized that I could hardly feel what the hygienist was doing. Why was I so scared for a simple cleaning? It was obvious to see that she was skilled at what she was doing considering I didn’t feel any pain during or even after the cleaning. She was so friendly that I kind of want to go back for another cleaning just to continue listening to some of her stories and knowledge that she was passing along to me. Do I really need to wait 6 more months for another cleaning?

With the cleaning out of the way and with me feeling like a big suck for being so scared of my dentist trip, it was time to see Dr. Sinclair. She did her check-up and took some x-rays. Did you know that you no longer have to bite down on those awful cardboard x-ray cards? They now have foam ones that you hardly feel. I had no idea these existed but they sure made the x-rays a lot more fun. Unfortunately, I didn’t do too well on my exam and I will need to go back for a root canal or two. Apparently, this is why you need to go to the dentist regularly and take care of your teeth.

So am I scared for the root canals? Well, believe it or not, I am actually looking forward to it. I had such a great time talking with the dentist, dental assistants, hygienist and receptionist that it was actually a lot of fun. The atmosphere at Riverstone Dental Clinic was light and friendly. Everyone is absolutely amazing and they all go out of their way to make you feel comfortable and at home. Perhaps, having a dental clinic in a retrofitted house isn’t such a bad idea after-all, since I definitely felt like I was at home.

My long winded story was basically just to tell you why I created this website. I wanted to share with everyone looking for a Whitehorse Dentist that Riverstone Dental Clinic is the place to go. Everyone is professional, friendly and just plain ol’ fun to be around. If you are looking to actually enjoy a trip to the dentist then you need to go to the dental office in the retrofitted house behind the Theater on 4th avenue (I still find it funny that I had never noticed the dentist there, yet I have parked in that Theater parking lot dozens of times).

To prepare you for your trip to the dentist, I am also going to be including links to helpful sites such as the Canadian Dental Association (CDA) and Healthy Living Tips from Health Canada. As well, WhitehorseDentist.net will provide you with some excellent tips to help you stay out of the dentist chair and get the smile you have always desired. Of course, I will also keep you updated on my personal quest to getting perfect teeth. I have no doubts that my root canals will go great but I will keep you posted. So go ahead and snoop around the site. I guarantee you will find something that will help you keep that beautiful, healthy smile of yours for the rest of your life.

Actually, I will give you the first tip right now, which I have learned from personal experience. Don’t wait 10 years before going to the dentist. Call the very nice folks at Riverstone Dental Clinic at 867-668-6077. Book an appointment for a cleaning and checkup today. You will be happy that you did.

I have already made my pitch about trusting the professionals at Riverstone Dental Clinic when you are looking for an experienced Whitehorse dentist; however, I wanted to take a minute and go through some of the dental procedures they can help you with.

Many people experience dental irregularities that need correction and treatment from a dentist. There are many causes of dental irregularities like birth defects, oral injuries, and infrequent oral hygiene. All of these irregularities can contribute to a damaged smile and a person can experience self-conscious feelings and smile less often. Daily oral hygiene routines are important for healthy teeth and gum lines. While these procedures are effective for removing excess plaque and bacterial growth, they are not very effective for treating crooked, misaligned, and stained or yellowed teeth. To treat these conditions, quality dental care is available when using a reliable Whitehorse dentist.

General dentistry includes treatments and procedures that are used to maintain proper oral care. A routine oral cleaning by my favourite hygienist at Riverstone Dental Clinic is specially designed to successfully remove bacterial build up that can affect a seemingly healthy mouth. If this bacteria is not removed from the teeth, it can begin to penetrate and erode the protective tooth enamel. When the enamel is eroded, there is little protection against cavity growth that can lead to decay.

When cavities begin to grow, the bacterium destroys the internal pulp and begins to slowly deteriorate the tooth by decay. Before the tooth begins to decay, a filling is used to seal the infected area from further deterioration. You don’t want to wait too long since if a dental filling cannot be used successfully, root canals are used to help save the tooth from further deterioration and damage to the blood supply that carries nutrients to the tooth. A root canal is the final treatment that can be completed for a severely decayed tooth before an extraction is needed. As you know, I will be having a root canal completed by Dr. Sinclair in the near future, which tells you that I waited too long.

A common treatment for many people is wisdom teeth correction or extraction. When these begin to develop, there may not be sufficient area for the teeth to enter into the predetermined location. This causes tooth overcrowding leading to pain and discomfort of the gum line and existing teeth. Riverstone Dental Clinic has the knowledge and experience required to successfully treat and extract wisdom teeth to bring relief to people suffering from these impacted teeth. Along with general dentistry, cosmetic dentistry procedures are performed regularly to reshape and transform smiles.

Cosmetic dentistry has expanded the popularity of oral restoration. Many people will seek a dentist for dental veneers, dental crowns, or inlays and outlays. These cosmetic procedures are used for correction and transformation of individual or multiple teeth. Dental veneers can help to reduce excess spacing or gaps that exist by and between an existing tooth by bonding a strong section of porcelain to the tooth exterior. This closes unsightly gaps and spacing. Dental crowns are used as a cap or crown over existing teeth that have been damaged due to accidents, root canals, or as part of a dental bridge to help replace a missing tooth.

Cosmetic whitening such as the Zoom teeth whitening system are popular in dental clinics. This procedure uses a strong whitening agent and alternate light source to gently break staining that helps to produce a natural white tooth color. This treatment can be completed quickly and easily and is popular with both teens and adults that seek whitening treatments or take home bleaching trays.

That is your basic Dental Care 101 course and I am happy to tell you that the amazing people at Riverstone Dental Clinic is a great choice for both general and cosmetic dentistry.

One of the tips I received during my visit with the dental hygienist was to always use a soft bristled brush. As well, she recommended an electric toothbrush with a small head on it. The small vibrating, head ensures that you focus on cleaning every tooth individually. Naturally, I wanted to start taking care of my teeth and since I completely trust my new hygienist, I went out and spent $20 on an electric toothbrush. So far, I can actually feel the difference and it makes brushing my teeth more fun.

Here is a bit more information on the electric toothbrush.

An Electronic Toothbrush Is Ultra Effective Dental Care

By: Patricia A. Jones

In today’s fast changing world we are no longer satisfied with using traditional methods, not when there are quicker improved ways anyway. Take the issue of hygiene, for example. In the olden days, the time-honored method of cleaning various parts of one’s body using customary hygiene tools was enough. However, the pressures of modern living have forced individuals to change and speed up even their sanitary practices.

In the eighteenth century you would have been happy to use a rag with soot and salt on it to clean your teeth. That was way before plastic toothbrushes with nylon bristles became popular and you used left, right, up and down motions to maintain your smile. With the constant need for change and as this routine is deemed too slow by today’s standards, some genius invented the first electronic toothbrush in 1954.

In terms of teeth cleaning, an electronic toothbrush is thought to be far more efficient than a regular toothbrush. Aside from the speed that you have when cleaning your teeth, optimum dental care can also be achieved more efficiently with an electric toothbrush. Since the brush movement moves in an even and consistent motion, the teeth and the gums can be thoroughly cleaned before you can even say “Tooth Fairy.”

An amazing innovation in dental care, an electronic toothbrush is available in an assortment of shapes, sizes, and even function. One of its most exemplary features is its head. Compared to that of a standard toothbrush, the head of an electronic toothbrush is more ergonomically designed. It is made to fit inside the user’s mouth without posing risks such as hurting the gums or damaging the mouth cavity.

Since electronic toothbrushes are not manually operated, a unit requires a rechargeable battery or in some models, a power source. This awesome teeth-cleaning gadget functions efficiently with a mere push of a button. By depressing the button, the head of the electric toothbrush will begin to vibrate or rotate. Some models work by moving its tapered head back and forth.

Aside from making your dental hygiene routine more effective, the purpose of this type of toothbrush is to make your teeth cleaner. Due to its automatic function, an electronic toothbrush is more effective in reducing cases of tooth decay. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. The author of this brilliant adage may have been referring to the rechargeable toothbrush since no other toothache remedies can compete with proper dental care via regular and correct brushing.

Still looking for more information about buying an electric toothbrush. Check out the video below. For the record, I recommend buying one with a rechargeable battery (actually my hygienist recommended this ). I probably could use one with the pressure sensor that is discussed in the video since I have been informed that I brush too hard.

How many embarrassing situations have you experienced in your life because of having bad breathe?
When you have bad breath, there are a lot of things in life that you are unable to enjoy, like close contact with a loved one and even the taste of your food. Many of us know that bad breath is a common condition that affects one in four people but the good news is that there is a cure and bad breath can be treated effectively.

There are many causes of bad breath including oral bacteria, foods, smoking, dentures, and dry mouth. Each of these different causes of bad breath will be related to either chronic or short-term bad breath and can be treated by any of the following remedies:

The first thing you should do when you realize that foul odor is emanating from your mouth is to make an appointment with the dentist to have a complete and thorough cleaning. Once this is done, you can speak to the oral hygienist that is doing the cleaning for tips and advice to help to cure bad breath and keep your mouth as clean as when it is professionally done.

To eliminate Oral bacterial the number one cause of chronic bad breath, which lives in your mouth and seems to favor the tongue as one of its favorite hiding spots, you should keep in mind the regular brushing and flossing of your teeth and regular brushing or scraping of your tongue. If you cannot take good care of your teeth, then you probably do not really want to cure your bad breath.

Foods such as onions and garlic can cause short-term bad breath and it is recommended that you eat a sprig of parsley, cloves, fennel seeds or peppermint to mask the odor. Eating avocado can help many people to ease the chronic bad breath that ails them and everybody around them, but not eating too much avocado. If you eat a lot of meat and very little fresh fruits and vegetables, that could be to blame for your bad breathe. Eating more fresh food and less protein is a great bad breath remedy that really works for many people

Having a dry mouth leads to bad breath and if you do not drink enough water, chances are that your bad breath is due to the lack of moisture in your mouth, so be sure to check that out. It is important to drink enough water for many reasons but bad breath is only one of them

In order to prevent the risk of mouth and gum disease and bad breath caused by smoking, which causes chronic bad breathe from the smell of the tobacco and because it leaves your gums and teeth prone to gum disease, it is recommended that you quit smoking.

Finally, finding an effective cure for bad breath can be liberating for you. When you have eliminated bacteria from your mouth, you will be able to exude confidence when talking to people because you know that you have found a cure for bad breath that works.
